[quote user="Jorge"] …Most of us are using some sort of cabinet for the LF range. Romy was using the Scanspeak up to 75 hz crossed to his UBH, Haralanov is using those wonderful 23" woofers on an infinite bafle, and Jessie is using the McCauley 18"...

... and incomprehensible. Also, there seemed to be a lot of theory about amplifiers.I listened to the upper/main part of this speaker. There is a woofer of sorts also --but it strangely wasn't connected. The thing looks quite industrial & if ...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"] Elso, I failed
to calculate the very precise size of enclosure necessary to make all the
system work properly. Generally speaking, if you have a very very small
listening room and very up-close position, and if you ...

[quote user="Jorge"]Actually a Tapped Horn would be bigger than a sealed enclosure, here is one of my first TH tests. The sound is very different than the sound coming form a Sealed encolsure. My first impression was that the bass was gone! There...

[quote user="kodomo"]I am using sealed bass arrays of 3 per side. I have six 10" scanspeak woofers in total. I aim to operate them from 38hz to 160hz with qtc 0.707I also have a tapped horn that I am using with my current horn system. It is 244cm's h...

thank you for sharing your concerns. The LF module I was building was like yours with drivers from scanspeak. However both the dealer was not professional and the the drivers had a certain sound to them (too much character) so I ditched that solution....

For my ears, the piano is rich in harmonics that change with playing volume BUT the only way to get a louder note is with the hammer striking the strings more powerfully which always is coupled to a louder "articulation". Violins and wind instruments...

I have the original Dannoy's. While i still have not gotten the sdound that Romy did in his room, it is still very good. Using biamped Yamaha B2 amplifiers driven by a Trinnov 16 pre-pro, recently updated by sdoftware to 20 channels. The speakers are...

The mini skirt analogy is a great fit. That is my experience.Or maybe like that stunning girl has small breasts and one has know the joy of a good handful. There are ways for enhancement and while one could get more, the girl is no more beautiful and...

We should define some borders here; LF, when you have an UBH, should be from around 100 hz down to 30 hz, where the last fundamental tone of an instrument is played. ULF should be under 25-20hz.I would say that a driver playing 25-30 hz should...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]...Then Bill crossed his Dannoys at 80 cycles, and the bottom field is his subwoofer. The sound was still very nice altogether with exception of digital amplifier signature but Dannoy become so much less dynamically challen...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]Here is the idea that I had for the “ultimate bass” for my room. Below is the picture of Macondo one channel as it is now from my listening position. So, if I find a way to deal with the wall edge at my ceiling then I migh...

Oh, rowuk, you have no idea how much I agree. To me passive theaters very much like ports and I hated anything which stay even remotely close to it. However, this time the entire Remedios project is is very different s s is built not based upon knowl...

Romy, it’s selfunderstood (at least to me) that the project is in its infancy and you are on terra incognita. Im trying to visualize what was „the last working configuration”.
[quote user="Bill"]These are Romy's original boxes and s...

[quote user="anthony"]I seem to
remember you had this sort of issue when setting up your previous room and
eventually you moved them time aligned.
The one stack of 15" and 10" sounds
like a nice solution. Do you think more 10" scanspeak instead ...

Aura made their 1808 driver in 80s and most of the 90s and it was wonderful. It had huge high-temperature neodymium magnet, unique magnet geometry with underhung 4" edgewound aluminum voice coil. It was the only 18-inch...

In my first design, I kept them all in a vertical line. It had one channel less back then. When I added the 1" throat JMLC 1000, I decided, as the tweeter operates over 9.6k, the slight misalignment may not matter. Still, I kept vary and kept the fra...

[quote user="haralanov"]When all of these 5-6-7 different types of distortion mechanisms are eliminated (I mean lowered), one has the opportunity to hear the unmasked/undistorted tone of his bass. I deliberately used the word “opportunity” because no...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]I do feel that a playback sound has to be built first...The way how I trained myself is to disconnect channels. While I was making Macondo, installing it, moving it and experimenting with it I was frequently disconnecting c...

Anthony, it is not the subject of this thread but I am replying you since you raised a question. Is there are a lot of conspiracies about Tannoy vintage crossovers. They did many different versions and all of them well known. If somebody need I can h...

Romy,Regarding your first illustration:Some time ago I intentionally made two different boxes for my ScanSpeak drivers to see what will happen, because I do not believe in theories and trust only to my ears. The boxes had exactly the same internal vo...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]This is all because you are a primitive person with very simplistic and amateurish understanding of many things. You need to learn from much more sophisticated people, of cause I mean myself. Take a look: I do not run like...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]Another this the I at this point has no idea why in my use

N-Set, I invite you to make your own recording of the phase of your Dunnoy. I used my phone camera to do it and a free online sweep generator. I had Tannoy, Scanspeak and laptop screen all in shot when I filmed and shot...

Hy Paul, I agree with your comment about the tone of the passive radiator if it runs to the mid range. This is the point of the SS8565. the combo of the crazy stiff cone and the special surround works phenomenally well to stay linear. It is even bett...

Rakesh, during the last year, there were some very important moments in my own realizations about the methods of low frequency reproduction. I totally abandoned my Scanspeak bass modules and now they are resting in my garage. I intentionally have my ...
